Robby Robbins came to Columbia with the experience to deliver for Dorchester and Colleton. Four years later, it's on the books: lower income taxes, tougher penalties for violent criminals, road projects finally built, and Lowcountry land protected for good.
Robby Robbins is from here. He grew up in Reevesville, Walterboro, and St. George, where his parents, Doug and Nancy, raised him on hard work and service. His grandfathers showed him what public service looks like — Billy Moorer as a longtime magistrate, Jack Robbins as St. George's police chief.
After law school, Robby came home in 1987 and opened a law practice in St. George. He helped start the Tri-County Regional Chamber of Commerce, then spent seven years as a prosecutor and Deputy Solicitor putting violent offenders behind bars. In 2004, Governor Mark Sanford appointed him First Circuit Solicitor.
He went on to spend a decade on the Dorchester County Sales Tax Transportation Authority and six years on the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission, serving as its chairman — work behind the road projects families in this district drive every day. Robby and his wife, Mary Bryce, have two children, Bryce and Lena.
District 97 is one of the fastest-growing parts of South Carolina. Robby's job is to make sure that growth improves life for the families who are already here.
South Carolina needs more power, and part of the answer is right here. Santee Cooper and Dominion are rebuilding the retired Canadys plant in Colleton County as a natural gas station — new investment and good jobs for our community.
Build where we need to build, and protect what makes the Lowcountry home. Robby helped write South Carolina's seven-million-acre conservation goal into law and opposes a data center in the ACE Basin.
Robby is committed to eliminating South Carolina's income tax. He has already helped lower income taxes, and he will keep working toward zero with a responsible approach that protects essential services while cutting the tax burden on working families.
Robby helped raise South Carolina's homestead exemption for seniors by 50%. He is committed to building on that progress with the goal of doubling the exemption again, so seniors can stay in the homes and communities they helped build.
Robby is committed to protecting girls' sports and fair competition. Girls should compete against girls, and boys should not compete in girls' sports.
As a former prosecutor, Robby knows what it takes to keep violent offenders off the street. He supports strong law enforcement, meaningful consequences for violent crime, and the deportation of violent illegal immigrants.
Results, not promises — and every one of them is on the books in Columbia.
Robby was the lead sponsor of the law creating a felony offense for leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase, with tougher penalties when a chase injures or kills someone.

South Carolina's top rate is down to 5.21%, and the first $30,000 of taxable income is taxed at 1.99%. The law Robby co-sponsored keeps cutting rates as the state can afford it, working toward eliminating the income tax.

Robby co-sponsored the law setting a statewide goal of seven million protected acres — roughly a third of the state — by 2050, and signed the Colleton delegation's resolution opposing data center development in the ACE Basin.

Robby sponsored the law extending South Carolina's highway construction program through 2032. As a DOT commissioner and chairman, he helped drive the projects behind Berlin G. Myers Parkway Phase III, which opened to traffic in April 2025.
